How do I deal with an email message?

Open the message and choose one action: Create New Task, Link to Existing Task, or Mark as Irrelevant. You decide each time. DueFiler never does it for you.

Who can do this: Admin, Partner, Company SecretaryLast checked: 20-10-2026

Every client message needs a decision from a person. This is called triage. DueFiler never creates a task by itself. Old messages that nobody has dealt with are shown to Partners and Admins.

Choose an action

  1. Click Inbox and open a message.
  2. Choose one of the three buttons above the message.
  • + Create New Task — the message needs new work. A task is made, with the email as its description.
  • Link to Existing Task — the message belongs to work you already have.
  • Mark as Irrelevant — the message needs nothing. It moves to the Marked Irrelevant folder.

Create a task from a message

  1. Click + Create New Task.
  2. Choose the Client. You can add a new client from this window.
  3. Choose a Template, or keep Blank Task.
  4. Check the Task Name and the Description / Instructions. DueFiler fills them from the email.
  5. Choose the Priority and the Statutory Due Date.
  6. Click Create.
What you will seeThe new task opens. The message now shows “Linked to” the task.
  1. Click Link to Existing Task.
  2. Search for the task and choose it.
  3. Click Link.

Save an attachment to the vault

Click Save to Vault next to the attachment. If the message is already linked to a client or a task, it saves at once. If not, choose the client first.

Reply, forward or write a new message

  1. Click Reply, Reply All or Forward, or click Compose for a new message.
  2. Write your message. Drafts are saved for you.
  3. Click Send. You have a few seconds to click Undo.
Good to knowTo send later, click the small arrow next to Send and choose Schedule send. The message waits in the Scheduled folder.

Cannot see this on your screen?

  • Your role must be one of these: Admin, Partner, Company Secretary. If it is not, ask your Admin to check your access.
  • Email Inbox depends on your firm’s plan. If its menu item shows a small lock, your plan does not include it yet. Ask your Admin.
  • If your firm’s trial has ended, DueFiler is read-only. You can see everything, but you cannot add or change anything.
